On Saturday, the weather cooperated so we took a trip to Munkholmen, an island in the fjord that Trondheim sits along.
On our walk to the harbor to catch the boat, we passed through the Trondheim marathon. Good day for it - overcast and not too cold or too hot. Got the marathon juices flowing again for both Dave and me. |
At Ravnkloa, the fish market, as our boat pulled out from the harbor. |
Sam and Katie enjoyed the ride from the deck of the boat. |
This one is for Tina. The Hurtigruten was pulling out as the same time as us. |
Grace and Dave giggled inside the boat. |
Checking out the beach |
The island has been a monastory, a fortress, a prison, and a WWII anti-aircraft gun station. The guns are still there, and open to climb in. |
It was a breathtaking view. |

After walking around the fortress part of the island, we headed to the beach to picnic and play.

Picnic on the rocks. |
This reminds me a of picture from ten years ago when Dave and I were dating and he visited me in Maryland. We went for a hike along the Potomac River, and then had a picnic on the rocks over the river. Wow, have things changed in ten years. Good developments. |
Playing in the sand |
Dave went for a walk out to the end of the peninsula radiating out from the island. Well almost to the end of the point. He got dive-bombed by birds roosting at the point, and the birds won the showdown.
We were at a beach, so we broke out the swimsuits, gol' darn it! |
Examining a dead crab that washed ashore |
Waiting for the boat ride home. |

Grace checks out our ride |

The kids' stroller was tied to the roof of the boat - no room inside |

"Look at the giant crab in there, Mom!" |
The day's marine voyage behind us, it was time for icecream. |
On the walk back home, Dave spotted "our" boat passing through the Nidelva, under the Gamle Bybro (old town bridge) |
It was a wonderful day.
Theresa, you take WONDERFUL photos!!! The perspective is always carefully chosen, as a viewer it very much appreciated. I love getting lost in you guys adventure. :-)
