Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Sam!

Sam had a wonderful day filled with celebration of his sixth birthday. The moment he got out of bed, he started on his birthday Lego project - the Power Miners' Thunder Driller and the Stone Chopper. It was another hot one today. Grace sported her first ponytails, to help keep her hair off of her neck.Isaac was hanging out with me while I was doing the lunch dishes.Sam shows off his handywork. Sam's "cake" was six Amerikaner cookies. These cookies are for sale at most every bakery in Germany that we've visited. The cookies have a yellow cake-like consistency, and black-and-white frosting. Ironically, I've never seen an Amerikaner cookie in America (nor have I seen German chocolate cake in Germany.)Sam invited Jagoda and Yuma over for his celebration. Even though they don't speak much English, Jagoda and Yuma knew the birthday drill - sing song, blow out candles, have cake and ice cream. Yuma brought over strawberries to share, and the kids had some gummy bears, in case there wasn't enough sugar already in their snack. All the kids had a great time.Even Dave, who had some fun with the busses Yuma gave Sam.Everyone is working together to build the Lego train Jagoda gave Sam.Katie built a track for the train. The kids worked up a sweat tossing balloons and playing hide and seek in the hallway.Winding down in the evening.Katie went for a stroll with Dave, Grace, and Isaac, and returned happy and sticky. It's incredibly humid. The weather is supposed to break on Saturday. Tomorrow should be the last day of heat and humidity.Grace enjoyed all the action today. Our birthday fellow!Sam took these photos. The thunder driller.
The stone chopper. Happy birthday to our Lego scientist!
